Fly to NYC for $236 round trip or use 15K Chase Ultimate Rewards

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, one of the best times to go to NYC is during the  shoulder season (between peak and off-peak) after the summer and before all of the major winter holiday. New York City in the fall? Come on!!!

Here’s an example:

$236 – Burbank to New York’s JFK with JetBlue round trip

Got points and don’t want to shell out cash?

If you have a Chase Sapphire Reserve, you can fly for as low as 15K points round trip, that’s insane! Nothing else out of pocket, so you can put your points to use. Why is this a good deal? A typical sweet spot to NYC will set you back 25K points, but this deal gets your there for less, 15K points. If you have points with your Chase Sapphire Preferred, it could be as low as 19K Ultimate Rewards.

There are lots of dates flying from Burbank.

Here’s how I would check:

  • Go to
  • Enter BUR and JFK for the airports (you can try your local airports as well, I’ve seen a few deals for LAX and SFO)
  • Follow the prompts, buy directly from the airline; OR
  • If you have access to points with Chase, search by going to your Chase Ultimate Rewards account.
  • Lots of availability through early November

To learn more how to get started using points, here are two entries that I wrote recently:

  1. Hello, I’m not sure where to post this so I’ll ask here. I was going to book a flight from lax to Mia for Christmas time. The flights are all over $700 so I was trying to see how I can book a flight using a point system like Avios. I have sapphire reserve and platinum. Do you know any airline partner that allows domestic flights? If not, what do you advise?

    Thank you!

    1. Hi Carlos – I just saw this now, I’m in Hong Kong on vacation. Could we discuss this on my Facebook page so other followers can learn as well? Let me know, If you “LIKE” my FB page, I’ll open up the discussion and tag you. Also let me know what dates you have in mind.
