It’s back! Staples $200 Visa Gift Cards are on sale again. The activation fees are waived.

Earn 5x at Staples $200 Visa Gift Cards (waived fees)

Staples Visa Gift Cards – no activation fee
  • Promo period 7/23-7/29
  • Buy $200 Visa Gift Card
  • $6.95 purchase fee is waived this week
  • Limit 8 per visit (YMMV)
  • In-store only
If you’ve been following many of my posts, I purchase these Gift Cards valued at $200 each from Staples These cards usually come with an activation fee. But every now and then, the activation fee is waived.

So what? Why buy GIFT CARDS?

When you use a business credit card such as the Chase Ink Business Cash, you earn 5x per dollar. This will only work on the Chase Ink Business Cash. If you use other cards such as Hyatt, CSP, CSR…other cards that do not give you extra points at office supplies stores…then you will NOT get 5x. This will NOT work with other Ink cards (Ink Business Preferred and Ink Business Unlimited).

So what? What do I get? How many points?

• 8 x $200 VGCs = $1,600 (8 is the limit per store)
• $1,600 x 5 pts stores = 8,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards

Again, so what? What will 8,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards do?

That could easily be a stay at a Hyatt property that charges up to 8K per night. Or I could take that 8K and add it to my stash of points for future redemptions.
These GCs work just like any other credit card. So I carry these around when I know that I’m about to make a purchase or pay for something that would normally just earn me 0 points or 1 point. The idea is to turn my expenses and earn as many points as possible.

Which credit card to use

The card that will work is the Chase Ink Business Cash
  • Earn $750 cash back or 75,000 bonus offer.
  • Required minimum spend is $6,000 in 3 months
  • NO annual fee.
This is the card I suggest using when purchasing gift cards at office supplies stores (i.e. Staples, Office Depot). Earn 5x per dollar on purchases at Office Supplies Stores.
CAVEAT: I like to play it safe and not draw any attention with Chase. So if you get this card, I do not suggest using your new card to buy all of the gift cards to meet your minimum spend. I suggest to mix it up, to also plan on using it for organic purchases.
